Not in the Job Description

June 12th, 2009

As a consumer journalist, I have to explain my job to friends and family when we meet. I usually have to look past marketing blurbs and publicity blitz on new products so I can inform consumers what they’re actually getting if they buy it. I also write consumer awareness articles, but have also been called in to review products. Sometimes the gadgets I get to test are fun, like a cell phone, camera or laptop computer. But I’ve also had to compile a list of the top rated baby monitors, or determine which softener is better for your clothes, which aren’t very interesting at all.
