A Trip to Durham

I’ve just been up to Durham to visit my son who is at university there. He is living in halls, so my wife and I stayed in a lovely holiday cottage near Beamish in County Durham which was close to both the university and Newcastle. We spent Saturday shopping in the Metro Centre which was a short drive away, then went for a meal in Newcastle. On Sunday we took a walk along the Derwent walk, which followed a river through the countryside. I was amazed at how close quality Holiday Cottages Durham are to the big towns and cities, you can get away from it all in the leafy country and be back in suburbia within minutes.

Restaurant guides 3

In the United States, the Mobil Travel Guides and the AAA rate restaurants (visit bridgend italian restaurants) on a similar 1 to 5 star (Mobil) or diamond (AAA) scale. Three, four, and five star/diamond ratings are roughly equivalent to the Michelin one, two, and three star ratings while one and two star ratings typically indicate more casual places to eat. In 2005, Michelin released a New York City guide, its first for the United States. The popular Zagat Survey compiles individuals’ comments about restaurants but does not pass an “official” critical assessment. In the United States Gault Millau is published as the Gayot guide, after founder Andre Gayot. Its restaurant ratings use the same 20 point system, and are all published online.

super sale

This weekend the mall was having a super sale. All items would be on sale, starting at 5% off the tag price. Mother always loved going to sales. Almost all of the things she buys are on sale. She doesn’t buy anything that isn’t on sale unless she really needed to or unless it was something she really wanted. That day Mom arrived at the mall before it was even open. The mall was open a few minutes later and mom seized the day, or rather, seized the discounts. She left the mall with several bags of things including a new mop, a steamer, a Brasilia espresso machine, a digital alarm clock, and many more.
